·This keyboard design concept for Z1 originates from Zjay. Both Neson Design Zephyr Lab shared the same  passion for keyboards with ambient lighting design, and were fascinated by the concept of interstellar spacecraft. The goal of this design was to express a philosophy of “standing firmly on the ground while gazing at the stars.”


At its core, a custom keyboard is an industrial design art piece—one that reflects the designer's vision while balancing functionality and aesthetic expression. Neson Design & Zephyr Lab wanted the front of the Z1 to be designed as simple and clean as possible: no logos or patterns, allowing it to seamlessly blend in with any desktop setup or accessories. In hand, we wanted the keyboard to feel distinct and refined.

Rendering

The most complex and time-intensive part of the Z1 was the solid stainless steel bottom case. Neson Design and Zephyr Lab aimed for a “spaceship” and “hovering” aesthetic, opting for 3D-angled side slopes instead of flat edges. These enhance ambient light diffusion and create a subtle levitation effect.


Each base is CNC-machined from a solid 28×110×292mm stainless steel block, taking over 9 hours to produce. To ensure soft, even side lighting, the system includes 4 aluminum components, 4 acrylic + PC diffusers, and 2 dedicated RGB LED PCBs.

Keyboard Structure

Top-mounted Poron Gasket Structure, secured by 6 internal locking screws.

Providing the bounce feedback from typing, and to provide alignment on the keyboard. Combined with the heavy stainless steel bottom case, this mounting method delivers a satisfying typing experience and acoustic feedback.
